Tripura CM Vows Action Against Cops in Drug Trade

Agartala: Tripura Chief Minister and Home Minister Manik Saha declared a zero-tolerance policy against drug trafficking on Friday, August 28. He promised strict consequences for any police personnel caught in narcotics crimes. The announcement followed a probe by Congress MLA Gopal Chandra Roy during the Tripura Legislative Assembly session.

Roy highlighted the drug crisis threatening the youth. He pressed the government for data on arrests and charges against officers suspected of facilitating trade. Saha countered by noting that the conviction rate under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act climbed to 14.7 percent by July 2026. The government continues to meet with prosecutors to sharpen investigations.

Saha confirmed that synthetic drugs are flowing in from states like Uttar Pradesh and Delhi. Agencies including the BSF and local police are working to choke off these supply lines. Officials are targeting everyone from kingpins to small-time peddlers, including minors, to break the cycle. The Chief Minister addressed the concerns regarding corrupt law enforcement directly.

"Police is not my personal. If police are engaged, we are not compromising and taking action," Saha said. He added that the state maintains its focus on both awareness campaigns and legal prosecution to protect the public.
