Agartala: Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha recently underscored the vital role that women-led self-help groups (SHGs) play in bolstering the state economy and increasing the Gross State Domestic Product. During an event organized by the Tripura Rural Livelihood Mission at Rabindra Bhavan in Agartala, the Chief Minister highlighted that nearly 4.95 lakh rural women are currently active across 55,569 SHGs. These initiatives are fostering economic self-reliance across the region.
Government programs such as Samriddhi 1.0 and 2.0 have been instrumental in this success. Under the first phase, loan disbursals exceeded the initial target of 100 crore rupees, reaching 188 crore rupees. The second phase saw similar success, with an upwardly revised goal of 260 crore rupees. To date, the state has provided 2,398 crore rupees in loans to these groups, maintaining a low non-performing asset rate of 1.84 percent, which has significantly bolstered trust with financial institutions.
A major milestone for the state is the emergence of 1,08,281 lakhpati didis, a development that is driving rural economic progress. To further professionalize these efforts, the Tripura Rural Livelihood Mission has partnered with the Indian Institute of Management Calcutta Innovation Park to provide business development support. The event, which also hosted Rural Development Secretary Abhishek Singh and Mission CEO T. K. Chakma, reflects the government commitment to empowering rural entrepreneurs.
