Imphal: The Tribal Youth Council Manipur (TYCM) accused the state government of ignoring tribal institutions. They claim officials lack any real interest in helping tribal communities. Staff shortages have stalled vital development programs across the state. The situation is dire.

The group points to a massive gap in staffing. The Directorate of Tribal Affairs and Hills Department currently has only 38 of its 138 sanctioned posts filled. That leaves 100 positions sitting empty. The Tribal Research Institute holds only 13 of 33 staff members. Meanwhile, the Manipur Tribal Development Corporation Ltd. reports 68 vacancies.

TYCM leaders say the state has prioritized recruitment for other departments while leaving tribal agencies to rot. They called the government’s promise of balanced growth a hollow lie. "During the current volatile and disrupted situation in Manipur, the Government of Manipur has been conducting both fresh and pending recruitment processes for several other departments," the council stated.

The group sent a fresh plea to the Chief Minister on June 23. This follows a long history of ignored requests that date back to before the imposition of President’s Rule. The council warned the state to act fast. They want to avoid public unrest. If officials keep dragging their feet, the council fears a spike in resentment from tribal communities across the hills.
