Guwahati: Tinsukia district officials kicked off an aggressive campaign to stop Japanese Encephalitis, dengue, and malaria. The move follows a spike in cases across Assam. The state death toll for Japanese Encephalitis now sits at 15, with 60 total deaths tied to the virus and Acute Encephalitis Syndrome this year.
Deputy Commissioner Sumit Sattawan led a task force meeting on Thursday to set the plan in motion. He ordered health teams and civic boards to ramp up fogging operations and spray Temephos into stagnant water. Every department must now find and clear mosquito breeding grounds.
Sattawan warned residents to clear standing water from homes and offices immediately. He pushed for blood tests for anyone entering the district from other states who shows symptoms like headaches or fever. The Deputy Commissioner stated, "A coordinated effort involving the public, the Health Department and other stakeholder agencies would be essential to contain Japanese Encephalitis, dengue, malaria and other vector-borne diseases."
