Guwahati: A 10-foot python weighing nearly 20 kg was pulled from the roadside along National Highway-17 at Agchia in Boko, Assam, on September 5. Local residents spotted the snake and quickly alerted the Forest Department. Singra Range Forest Office personnel arrived and secured the reptile. They released the python into the Luki Reserved Forest that night to return it to a safe habitat.
This rescue follows a similar incident just one day earlier in the Belpara area of Boko. On September 4, villagers found a 15-foot python weighing nearly 30 kg perched in a tree. Locals had been on edge after losing livestock, noting the "disappearance of several domestic ducks and chickens in the area in the preceding days." Residents hauled the snake down and handed it to forest officials.
These back-to-back encounters have rattled the community. People are worried. The repeated sightings near roads and houses highlight the growing friction between expanding human settlements and local wildlife.
