Itanagar: Three militants turned themselves in to the Changlang district police in Arunachal Pradesh. The men belonged to two different Naga insurgent groups. They are finally finished with the fighting.
The group included two members of the National Socialist Council of Nagaland-Reformation and one from the National Socialist Council of Nagalim. Officials identified the men as 43-year-old Jongham Saijong, 51-year-old Lomjan Pangtha, and 22-year-old Khangjung Khanglim. They hail from Old Jukhi, Jongji Havi, and Old Salang villages.
Security forces secured the surrender after months of counseling. Family members also pressured the men to quit the armed groups. A police official stated, "With the support of their families and through continuous counselling, they chose to renounce violence and rejoin the mainstream of society."
Operations against insurgents remain high in Tirap, Longding, and Changlang. The Assam Rifles work with local police to bring these fighters home. Officials say many militants have quit the movement recently due to these outreach programs.
Mama Natung, the state Cabinet Minister, backed the move. He posted on X that the surrender helps stabilize the region. He hopes the government can continue helping former fighters reintegrate into society. The state wants others to follow this lead and choose peace.
