Itanagar: Three people died and two were seriously injured on Wednesday when their vehicle skidded off the Migging-Tuting road in Arunachal Pradesh. The Tata Nexon was carrying five occupants when it slid down a 200-metre gorge following a landslide.
The victims were identified as Ottu Nitik, Bami Nitik and Olek Tali. The two survivors, Jesek Jongkey and Ponung Nitik, remained at the site as heavy rainfall and road blockades delayed their transport to the District Hospital in Yingkiong.
Rescue operations lasted nine hours as personnel from the Indian Army, ITBP, and local authorities navigated dense forests and slippery slopes. Troops from several regiments, including the 5 DOGRA and 117 Engineer Regiment, carried out the recovery mission under the direction of Tuting Additional Deputy Commissioner Pandov Perme. Perme confirmed the operation concluded successfully, stating, "The rescue operation was completed successfully and the mortal remains were handed over to the families for the last rites."
District Disaster Management Officer Anie Yangfo announced that the families of the deceased will receive ex-gratia payments of Rs 4 lakh each under State Disaster Response Fund guidelines. Authorities are also arranging financial support for the medical treatment of the survivors while continuing to monitor the hazardous road conditions.
