Guwahati: Tezpur University has entered into a landmark agreement with Hyundai Motor Company to advance research in future mobility technologies. Signed on May 15, 2026, in New Delhi, the collaboration establishes the university as a partner within the Hyundai Centre of Excellence. This makes Tezpur University the first Central University in India to join the program, which focuses on electric vehicles, battery management systems, and sustainable energy storage.
Hyundai plans to invest approximately 16.37 crore into the initiative. This funding marks the university's first major research partnership with a global automobile manufacturer. The collaboration joins Tezpur University with other prestigious research hubs, including several IITs and VNIT Nagpur, to drive innovation in the automotive sector.
Senior representatives attended the signing ceremony to finalize the project. Hyundai was represented by Vice President Dr. Chang Hwan Kim and Managing Director Tarun Garg. Prof. Amarendra Kumar Das, Prof. Soumik Roy, and Dr. Manashita Borah represented Tezpur University. The team will prioritize breakthroughs in battery safety and electrification to support the growing demands of modern transportation.
