Guwahati: A district and sessions court in Tezpur delivered two separate judgments on Monday regarding cases of murder and assault. Judge Kaushik Hazarika sentenced Milon Karmakar to life imprisonment for killing his father-in-law, Bishnu Tanti. The court also imposed a fine of 20,000 rupees on the defendant for the incident, which occurred on April 16, 2025, when Karmakar struck the victim on the head with a brick in the Dhekiajuli police station area.

In a separate proceeding, the court sentenced Jiten Kumar to four years of rigorous imprisonment for assaulting his sister-in-law. This incident was recorded on April 11, 2025, within the jurisdiction of the Rangapara police station. The court convicted Kumar under Section 76 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, a law addressing criminal force against a woman.

Prosecution advocate Prayag Kumar Sarma confirmed the outcomes of both legal proceedings. Sarma stated that these decisions mark "significant rulings in cases of violent crime within the district."
