Tension Eases at Imphal Hospital Following Transfer of Injured Kuki Youths

Imphal: Tension at the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences in Imphal finally subsided late last night. Authorities transferred three injured Kuki youths from the hospital to Churachandpur Medical College under a heavy security escort to restore order.

The three patients had been admitted to RIMS on June 15 after suffering injuries during a gunfight in Leilon Vaiphei village. Their stay at the medical facility sparked two days of protests and heightened security concerns, as large crowds gathered at the campus to demonstrate. Officials reported that the situation became difficult for police to manage as emotions intensified among the protesters.

The decision to relocate the patients was a precautionary step aimed at preventing further confrontation and maintaining stability at the hospital. Officials stated, "The decision was taken as a precautionary measure to maintain law and order and prevent any further escalation of tensions within the hospital premises." Normal operations have since resumed at RIMS, though security forces remain stationed in the area to monitor the situation.
