Imphal: Civil society organizations in the Tengnoupal district have announced an indefinite economic blockade of the Imphal-Moreh highway beginning May 28. The action aims to pressure authorities into launching a judicial inquiry into the deaths of three Kuki-Zo religious leaders and securing the release of hostages held during the state's ongoing unrest.

A coalition of local groups, including the Kuki Chiefs Association, the Kuki Women Union-Human Rights, and the Kuki Students' Organization, issued a joint statement. They argued that the government has failed to maintain order or ensure justice in the violence-hit region. By endorsing this agitation, the groups hope to force an immediate response to the volatile situation.

The organizations warned that the blockade will persist until the hostages are safely released and those responsible for the killings of the religious leaders are held accountable. As the Imphal-Moreh road is a critical artery for the area, the disruption is expected to significantly impact the transport of essential goods across the region.
