Imphal: Manipur's Excise Department brought in 29 crore rupees since March 26, 2026. Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh revealed the figures on Tuesday at the 79th Manipur Excise Raising Day. The event took place at the Excise Headquarters in Lamphelpat, Imphal West.
Khemchand acknowledged the state's tight budget. The financial crisis started in May 2023. He thanked both state and Central security forces for their work in controlling the situation. The Chief Minister also promised to hear the concerns of the Excise Employees Association and bolster the department's capabilities.
Commissioner Finance N. Ashok Kumar spoke at the ceremony. He noted the agency's dual mission: public health and state revenue. Kumar said, "The government was committed to supporting the department by addressing staff requirements, improving infrastructure and providing necessary policy support."
The department handed out hardware for top performances. Zone-I (HQ) took the top spot for Best Performing Excise Station. Nambol Excise Station placed second and Zone-II (HQ) followed in third. Kangpokpi and Tadubi stations earned honors for their work in the hills. Keithelmanbi Excise Station won for its coordination with other agencies.
Khemchand also honored Ariha Pangambam. She grabbed a gold medal at the 10th Aerobic Gymnastics Asian Championships, making her the first Indian to do so. Anjori Pangambam also received recognition for her seventh-place finish in the same contest. Attendees included Commissioner Excise Hungyo Worshang, Deputy Commissioner Mayanglambam Rajkumar Singh, plus various department staff.
