Tax Officials Raid Kohima Businesses to Curb Evasion

Kohima: State tax officials swarmed Kohima shops on June 23 and 24. They searched commercial spots to verify tax compliance. The sweep came under the direction of the Assistant Commissioner of State Taxes for Kohima Ward-B. Inspectors enforced Section 67 of the Nagaland Goods and Services Tax Act, 2017.

Teams demanded sales records, stock registers, and purchase invoices. They compared these files against GST returns already on record. Officials also did physical headcounts of inventory in stores and godowns. They wanted to know if stock levels matched the books. The department documented all discrepancies found during the two-day operation.

Officials seized various documents including cash memos and bills for further scrutiny. The team warned local traders to keep accurate records or face the music. "Traders and shop owners were advised to maintain records as required under Section 35 of the NGST Act, issue genuine tax invoices for every transaction, and file GST returns accurately and within prescribed timelines to avoid penalties and legal consequences."

Expect more raids. The department confirmed that enforcement teams will hit different parts of Kohima in the coming weeks. They want total transparency in business transactions.
