Kohima: Suvendu Adhikari, the leader of the BJP legislative party, is poised to be sworn in as the first Chief Minister of West Bengal from the Bharatiya Janata Party. This historic transition follows the party's decisive victory in the state assembly elections, where the BJP secured 207 seats, effectively ending the 15-year tenure of the All India Trinamool Congress, which captured 80 seats.
Adhikari secured his position after a high-profile electoral contest, winning in both Nandigram and Bhabanipur. His victory in Bhabanipur, where he defeated outgoing Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee by a margin exceeding 15,000 votes, served as a pivotal moment in the election. BJP Rajya Sabha MP Rahul Sinha characterized this development as a historic change for the region, noting that the oath-taking ceremony coincides with the birth anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore.
Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio expressed optimism regarding the state's future, stating that West Bengal is poised for rapid development under the new administration. He emphasized that the impact of this political shift would be visible to citizens in the near future.
