Kohima: Langshe Lomou, a 28-year-old construction worker from Chendang Saddle, Tuensang district, remains under medical observation at a private hospital in Kohima. He suffered a gunshot wound to the back on September 16, 2026, during an incident in Chiechama village. The bullet damaged his kidney, perforated his colon, and caused stomach injury. Surgeons stabilized his blood pressure and administered two units of blood to address internal bleeding.
The patient was semi-conscious upon arrival. Doctors warn the next 48 hours are vital to monitor for potential infection caused by leakage into the abdominal cavity. While his condition is stable, he remains under close watch.
Chiephobozou police arrested 71-year-old Medochülie Zumvü, a resident of Chiechama, following the shooting. Police recovered the bullet and kept it as evidence. The accused is currently held in Kohima district jail following a court appearance. Authorities continue to examine all aspects of the case.
The shooting occurred at 11:40 a.m. at a primary health centre construction site. The Chiechama Village Council stated the accused fired after objecting to work being done at the site. Council chairman Neizolie Rüpreo and press secretary Kevineisa Metha condemned the attack as "barbaric and inhuman." The council has banned any village member from bailing the suspect and is weighing a seven-year excommunication.
