Kohima: Three major Chang groups issued a joint statement demanding swift justice following the shooting of Langshi Chang. The victim, a resident of Chendang Saddle Village, suffered an attack that put his life at risk on September 16, 2026. He had traveled to the region to work.
Medochülie Rürhie, from Chiechema Village in Kohima, is accused of the shooting. The Chang Khulei Setshang, Chang Wedoshi Setshang, and Changsao Thangjam Setshang condemned the act as a grave offense. They label the violence shocking and unacceptable.
The organizations called on law enforcement to charge the suspect under the Arms Act and all other relevant laws. They insist investigators avoid any leniency or attempts to minimize the severity of the shooting. Authorities must provide medical and legal support to the victim while keeping the investigation fair and fast.
The groups warned that failing to act quickly would break public trust in the law. They remain united in support of the victim's family. The coalition stated, "an attack of such a nature cannot be treated lightly or allowed to go without strict legal action." These leaders plan to monitor the case until it reaches a conclusion.
