The victim, a resident of Chendang Saddle Village in Tuensang district, was targeted on September 16, 2026, at Chichema Village in Kohima district. Violence broke out without warning. The union publicly condemned the event.
The CUD issued a statement calling the assault a "barbaric act" that endangers public safety. Officials noted the victim is a daily wage earner who provides for his widowed mother and other family members. The union remains deeply hurt by the incident and stands in solidarity with him during this "incredibly difficult time."
Law enforcement must act now. The organization insists that this incident violates the peace and safety of the community. In a final statement, the group declared, "This heinous act is not just an attack on one individual, but an assault on the peace, safety and democratic values of our entire community." The Phom Union Kohima joined the chorus of condemnation, reporting that the shooting followed a series of threats against laborers. According to the union, workers had been subjected to stone pelting and verbal warnings to abandon the job site before the gunfire occurred.
