Agartala: Surrendered members of the National Liberation Front of Tripura and the All Tripura Tiger Force have declared a 72-hour strike beginning June 12. The former insurgents claim that the Centre and the state government have failed to honor a rehabilitation accord signed nearly two years ago.
During a press conference at the Agartala Press Club, leaders including ATTF President Kalendra Debbarma and NLFT President Prasenjit Debbarma expressed frustration over the stalled agreement. The pact, signed on September 4, 2024, promised 250 crore rupees for rehabilitation and various regional development initiatives. Representatives Parimal Debbarma and Omangal Debbarma joined the leaders in highlighting that the prolonged delay has caused severe hardship for many individuals.
The groups reported that eight former members have died due to a lack of sustainable livelihoods and inadequate healthcare access. Addressing the media, the leaders stated, "Despite repeated approaches to the concerned departments seeking implementation of the accord, they claimed that no concrete steps have been taken so far."
Protesters plan to begin their agitation with highway and railway blockades in the Khowai and Teliamura areas. The organizers warned that if the government does not initiate discussions or take positive action during the strike, they will move forward with a larger, more extensive protest movement.
