Guwahati: Residents and visitors crowded into Longtong village on Wednesday to mark the Tuluni harvest festival. The event pulled in over 300 people from across the state. They met in the historic village located in the Tirap Tribal Belt of the Tinsukia district. The Longtong Village Council ran the show to celebrate the harvest and strengthen community ties.
Proceedings opened with an invocation by Pastor Saikha Chishi. Local leaders and guests highlighted the event's deep roots in the community. Kahoto Sema, Chairman of the All Assam Sema Naga Council, addressed the crowd to explain the meaning of the day. He noted, "Tuluni is one of the most significant harvest festivals of the Sumi Naga community."
Demonstrations of traditional fire-making and the Lokivi Tuluni ritual served as the main attractions. Women from the village participated throughout the day. Forest Service officer Aduk Paron attended as the guest of honor alongside researchers from Dibrugarh University. The day closed with a benediction from women pastor Vinitoli Yeptho, sealing a successful gathering for the Sumi Naga people.
