Imphal: The Students Union of Kangleipak (SUK) is bringing back its annual spelling and Kanglei-Lon competitions for 2026. The union, active since 2011, holds these events to push students toward wisdom. They want to free students from being confined to the basics. The group stated their mission is “Bringing out the knowledge of students who remain confined and enabling them to enter the path of knowledge and wisdom.”
Officials emphasize that Kangleipak must work harder to protect the Manipuri language and its script. The Kanglei-Lon competition, titled Kangleipak Pumbagi Ariba Lon (Kanglei-Lon) gi Wahanthok Changdamnaba, aims to keep traditional dialects alive. Students from across the region participate every year.
Preliminary rounds for the spelling contest start August 30 and September 6. The final round follows on September 13. The Kanglei-Lon event holds its preliminary round September 6 and the final on September 13. SUK might add more rounds in October if the state situation allows. That schedule includes spelling prelims on October 4 and 11, with a final on October 17. The Kanglei-Lon preliminary round would fall on October 11, followed by a final on October 17.
SUK leaders ask schools, colleges, and universities for full support. They need teachers and students to back these events. Success depends on local cooperation.
