Itanagar: The All Arunachal Pradesh Students' Union has submitted a 27-point memorandum to Education Minister P.D. Sona calling for urgent reforms across the state education system. A delegation led by union president Meje Taku and general secretary Mato Bui met with the minister in Itanagar to outline systemic failures ranging from severe staffing shortages to deteriorating infrastructure.
A primary concern involves leadership vacancies in 52 government schools that currently lack regular principals or vice principals. The union demanded immediate recruitment drives to fill these administrative roles along with positions for primary, graduate, and postgraduate teachers. They also highlighted a missing focus on specialized subjects, noting the absence of music and physical education instructors in many institutions.
Beyond basic schooling, the union identified critical gaps in higher education. They urged the government to appoint permanent vice chancellors at Arunachal Pradesh University and Rajiv Gandhi University while expanding essential campus facilities like hostels and water treatment plants. The memorandum also proposed the creation of new academic departments and professional colleges focused on medicine, agriculture, and nursing to broaden career prospects for local students.
Financial and welfare concerns were also at the forefront of the discussions. The union requested a dedicated state research fellowship for doctoral students and addressed the persistent delays in disbursing funds through the Umbrella Scholarship scheme. Minister Sona promised to review these concerns, and the student body plans to monitor the government for time-bound action on these requests.
