ST Bhutia Receives Inaugural Sikkim Mountaineering Association Gold Medal

Gangtok: Retired IPS officer ST Bhutia has become the first recipient of the Sikkim Mountaineering Association Gold Medal. The organization presented the honor to their former president during the Everest Day Sikkim 2026 celebrations to recognize his long-term efforts in advancing mountaineering and adventure sports throughout the Himalayan region.

Raju Basnet presented the award to Bhutia while the local sporting community and various mountaineers gathered to celebrate the occasion. The association plans to make this medal an annual tradition. This new initiative aims to highlight the accomplishments of individuals who demonstrate exceptional dedication to the growth of adventure culture in Sikkim.
