Guwahati: Zubeen Kshetra in Sonapur is off-limits to visitors. The site will stay locked until the morning of June 26. The Zubeen Kshetra Cleanliness, Management and Monitoring Committee pulled the plug at 9 pm on June 22 to honor Ambubachi Mela traditions.

This memorial marks the exact spot where fans cremated the musical icon Zubeen Garg. Many followers now treat the location as a sacred space for his legacy. The committee stated the memorial "stands at the location where the beloved singer was cremated and has gradually become a place of reverence for his admirers."

Staff will keep the site dark. No ceremonial lamps or incense will burn during the quiet period. The committee expects to reopen the gates as soon as the festival ends.

The closure mimics the rituals at Guwahati’s Kamakhya Temple. The temple remains shut for three days while the annual Ambubachi Mela draws lakhs of pilgrims to the Nilachal Hills. This major event celebrates the fertility of Goddess Kamakhya.
