Guwahati: Members of the Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuva Chatra Parichad (AJYCP) rescued six minor boys at the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border on June 11. The children were stopped at the Ruksin Gate near Murkongselek while waiting for Inner Line Permit passes required to enter Arunachal Pradesh.

The group had arrived earlier that morning on the Guwahati-Murkongselek Lachit Express. According to AJYCP leader Gyan Sarma, the boys were recruited from Bongaigaon, Kokrajhar, and Barpeta districts and were being transported to a construction site. The minors reported that traffickers promised them daily wages of Rs 500 for masonry work, though they could not provide details about their own home addresses.

Sarma claimed that traffickers frequently utilize the rail route to move workers into the neighboring state. This rescue occurred just before World Day Against Child Labour, which is observed on June 12 with the theme: "Red Card to Child Labour: Fair Play for Children, Decent Work for Adults."

The incident highlights ongoing concerns regarding the exploitation of vulnerable individuals. Recently, seven youths from Sadiya were rescued from a construction site at the Lower Dibang Hydroelectric Project in Roing, where they reportedly suffered from physical abuse and starvation. Activists continue to warn that many victims face irregular pay and dangerous working conditions after being trafficked into the region.
