Guwahati: Police in Assam have arrested six people, including two juveniles, following the discovery that a 12-year-old girl was more than six months pregnant. The investigation began after the victim's family filed a formal complaint at the Garamur Police Station on June 1.
Authorities stated that the suspects allegedly exploited the absence of the girl's family members to assault her repeatedly. The perpetrators reportedly threatened to kill the child if she spoke about the abuse. Medical reports suggest the assaults began when the girl was approximately 11 years old.
The four adult suspects are 59-year-old Khagen Doley, 50-year-old Dharmakanta Pegu, 52-year-old Yogen Doley, and 32-year-old Nathuram Doley. They appeared in a local court on June 2 and were placed in judicial custody for two days. The two juveniles involved are being processed through the juvenile justice system.
Legal proceedings are underway under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act, covering charges of criminal conspiracy, rape, and criminal intimidation. The victim is currently residing at a government shelter home, where she is receiving necessary medical treatment and professional counseling while investigators continue to gather evidence.
