Sikkim Theatre Artist Tila Rupa Sapkota Wins Prestigious National Award

Gangtok: Tila Rupa Sapkota, a respected theatre artist from Gangtok, has been selected for the Ustad Bismillah Khan Yuva Puraskar. The Sangeet Natak Akademi presents this award to celebrate exceptional young artists for their achievements in music, dance, and theatre.

Sapkota launched her professional journey after completing a certificate course at the National School of Drama in Sikkim in 2011. She spent over a decade as a repertory artist with the institution before performing in the internationally recognized musical Jaan-E-Jigar in Dubai. Her diverse career includes acting in more than 25 productions, such as Black Orchid, Andha Yug, and Aadhe Adhure, while working alongside noted directors like Raghubir Yadav and Tripurari Sharma.

Currently working as an independent practitioner, Sapkota focuses on artistic development and mentoring new performers in her home state. Reflecting on the national honor, she expressed deep gratitude for the path that brought her here. "This recognition belongs not only to me but to all my teachers, fellow artists and theatre enthusiasts who have been part of my journey," she said.
