Gangtok: Sikkim Governor Om Prakash Mathur and Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang marked World Environment Day by calling on the public to increase their commitment to climate action and ecological preservation. Both leaders stressed that protecting the natural landscape is vital for the long-term future of the state as they urged citizens to balance development with environmental responsibility.

Governor Mathur highlighted Sikkim as an example of how nature and culture can coexist in balance. He pointed to recent comments from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who described the region as the "Heaven of the East" for its dedication to an eco-friendly lifestyle. The Governor noted that the state continues to serve as an inspiration for the rest of the country regarding environmental stewardship.

The state leadership encouraged the people of Sikkim to reaffirm their role in protecting the fragile local ecosystem. By focusing on sustainable practices, officials aim to maintain the region's status as a leading model for conservation in India.
