Gangtok: The Sikkim government has formed steering and executive committees to create Sikkim Vision 2047, a comprehensive development blueprint. This initiative follows the national Viksit Bharat 2047 program, which encourages states to build long-term strategies for India's centenary of independence.
The vision document will address economic growth, environmental protection, infrastructure, and governance reforms. Planners aim to tailor these policies to fit the state's specific geographical, ecological, and socio-cultural needs.
Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang chairs the Steering Committee, with Professor Mahendra P. Lama serving as Vice-Chairman. The committee includes the Chief Secretary and heads of key state departments ranging from tourism and education to power and rural development. Three civil society members will join the board to ensure public representation across sectors like academia, healthcare, and environmental advocacy.
Professor Mahendra P. Lama will also lead the Executive Committee, which is tasked with drafting the actual vision document. This group will coordinate with the Institute for Transforming Sikkim, the Finance Department, and the Planning and Development Department. Technical support for the project will be provided through EEPF and Sikkim INSPIRES.
