Gangtok: Sikkim election officials released the draft electoral roll on July 5. This move marks the start of the claims and objections phase before the final list arrives on September 6. Booth Level Officers finished their door-to-door checks on June 28. The current draft shows 4.33 lakh voters and 37,000 deletions.
Chief Electoral Officer Raj Kumar Yadav confirmed that 53 new polling stations were added to keep booth counts under 1,200. The state deployed 48 registration officers and 27 additional officers to manage the work. Three observers from the Election Commission of India are also watching the process across the state's six districts.
The department mailed out roughly 90,000 notices to residents. These notices cover voters missing from the 2002 baseline or those facing issues with mismatched names. Yadav stated, "Receiving a notice does not automatically result in deletion from the electoral roll." It serves as a call for voters to show proof of eligibility to an officer.
Voters can check their status using QR codes or the official website. The department will host special verification camps on July 11, 12, 25, and 26. Citizens missing from the list should file Form 6 with their local officer immediately. Officials accept 11 types of documents to verify identity and residency.
