Gangtok: Election officials in Sikkim are prioritizing regional language outreach to ensure the success of the upcoming Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls. Apurva Kumar Singh, deputy director of the media section for the Election Commission of India, noted that local communication is essential for connecting with the public in geographically challenging areas like Sikkim.
This initiative moves beyond standard summary revisions by combining intensive field work with updates to create more accurate voter lists. By cleaning up these records, the commission aims to minimize disputes and streamline polling operations for future elections. Media engagement remains a primary tool to increase awareness and public participation throughout this process.
The revision process begins on May 30. Booth-level officers will conduct house-to-house visits through June 28 to manage the collection and distribution of enumeration forms. Following this, the commission will publish draft rolls on July 5 and accept claims and objections until August 4. Officials will process these filings until September 2, with the final updated electoral rolls scheduled for release on September 6.
