Gangtok: A delegation from the Sikkim unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party met with Union Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways Ajay Tamta during his visit to the region. The group submitted a memorandum outlining critical road connectivity challenges that are currently hindering daily life, tourism, and strategic movement in the state.
Led by State Secretary Bijoy Prasad Subba and District President Digum Limboo, the delegation highlighted delays on several vital routes, including the Ravangla-Geyzing Highway and the Legship-Geyzing road. They also voiced strong concerns regarding the Singtam-Dikchu Highway, where poor construction timing during the monsoon season and flawed project reports have left stretches in unusable conditions.
The memorandum placed special focus on National Highway 10, the primary artery linking Sikkim to the rest of the country. The party urged the ministry to move beyond temporary fixes and develop permanent, long-term solutions for the landslides and seasonal damage that frequently isolate the state. The leaders emphasized the need for infrastructure planning that respects the fragile Himalayan terrain.
Addressing the delegation, Union Minister Ajay Tamta assured them that his office would review the matters presented. The BJP delegation thanked the minister for the meeting, noting their appreciation for his "patient hearing and for assuring attention to the infrastructure challenges faced by the people of Sikkim."
