Gangtok: Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang and West Bengal Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari met in Kolkata to resolve pressing infrastructure bottlenecks. The pair agreed to launch joint, scientific dredging of the Teesta River. The riverbed rose sharply after a 2023 glacial flood. That disaster wrecked National Highway 10 and choked off supply lines to Sikkim.

State leaders also cut red tape for sick travelers. Adhikari signed off on the construction of the Suswastha Bhawan Sikkim, a facility for patients seeking care in Siliguri. The government cleared the project at the SNT Complex immediately.

Transport relief is coming for local drivers. West Bengal will double the permit quota for Sikkim-registered taxis, pushing the count from 3,000 to 6,000. This expansion aims to smooth out travel between the states. Tamang thanked his counterpart for the rapid results, noting these were "significant steps towards strengthening inter-state cooperation and improving public services."
