Gangtok: Social activist Muk Hang Limboo is pushing the Sikkim government to fix a glaring digital error on X. The social media platform currently tags Gangtok as part of Xinjiang, China. This mislabeling ignores the capital's status in India. The glitch stands out because other Sikkim towns like Namchi and Singtam appear correctly in the system.

Limboo filed a formal complaint with the Home Department on July 9. He warned that the error damages India's territorial image. "Gangtok, as the capital of Sikkim and an integral part of the Republic of India, should be accurately represented across global digital platforms," Limboo stated. The activist believes this error could confuse users and hurt the state's digital identity.

The root cause of the shift remains unknown. Limboo wants state officials to loop in the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology to force a correction. He also filed a separate appeal with the Prime Minister. His goal is simple: update the tag to read Gangtok, Sikkim, India. The activist now wants the state to audit other platforms for similar hidden discrepancies.
