Itanagar: Senior BJP leader Tai Tagak was elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha from Arunachal Pradesh on Thursday. The declaration followed the close of the nomination withdrawal period, as Tagak was the only candidate to file for the seat.

Returning officer Tadar Meena formally confirmed the election, which aligns with the provisions of the Representation of the People Act, 1951. The appointment comes as the term for incumbent member Nabam Rebia concludes on June 23. Tagak received his certificate of election during a ceremony at the Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly attended by electoral officials and party leadership.

A veteran member of the party, the 54-year-old Tagak has a long history in regional politics, including serving as state BJP president and as an adviser to the Chief Minister. Following the announcement, he met with Assembly Speaker Tesam Pongte to discuss his new role in the Upper House.

Chief Minister Pema Khandu congratulated Tagak on his success, noting the importance of his new position. Expressing his support on social media, Khandu stated, "Having served the state with dedication over the years, he now carries the responsibility of representing the hopes, concerns, and aspirations of our people at the national level."
