Guwahati: Mainak Patra, a prominent figure in the Assam Jatiya Parishad, has officially resigned from his role as Central Vice-President. He also relinquished his primary membership with the regional party. Patra submitted his formal resignation to AJP president Lurinjyoti Gogoi on Saturday, stepping away from all internal organizational responsibilities.

In his letter, Patra expressed appreciation for his time within the organization and thanked his colleagues and supporters for their collaboration. He did not provide a specific reason for his departure, noting only that the decision followed careful personal consideration. The party leadership has yet to release an official statement regarding the move.

Patra previously served as the AJP candidate for the Dibrugarh constituency during the 2026 Assam Legislative Assembly elections. He was defeated by BJP candidate Prasanta Phukan, who secured a victory with a margin of 72,043 votes. As a key player in Upper Assam politics, Patra's departure is considered a notable setback for the party's regional influence.
