Imphal: Security forces dismantled 26 illegal bunkers and seized a cache of weapons and ammunition during anti-insurgency operations in Manipur’s Ukhrul district. Officials confirmed on Wednesday that these structures were established by anti-social elements from Naga and Kuki groups across several sensitive hill stretches.

The first phase of the operation resulted in the destruction of 14 bunkers, including five along the Mongkot Chepu to Patlijang stretch and nine between Lungphu Junction and the Industrial Estate Centre. Teams recovered two empty 5.56 mm cartridge casings from these sites. A subsequent operation under the Litan Police Station saw the removal of 12 more bunkers, with ten located between Leingangching and Sikibung village.

During these sweeps, officers discovered a pair of binoculars, 21 empty cartridge casings of various calibres, and eight live SBBL rounds. According to official statements, the Director General of Police is personally overseeing the mission in regions experiencing increased armed activity. "Security forces are continuing cordon-and-search operations and area domination exercises in vulnerable and fringe areas of Kangpokpi, Churachandpur and Thoubal districts," officials noted.

Authorities have established additional checkpoints and nakas at strategic locations to bolster security. Extensive combing operations remain active as part of a broader effort to restore order in the state.
