Imphal: Security forces arrested five militants and seized a significant cache of weapons during a series of operations across Manipur on May 22 and 23. The arrests targeted members of several proscribed insurgent groups as authorities continue to conduct area domination drives.
On May 22, forces apprehended two cadres of the United Kuki National Army in the Nghathal area of Churachandpur district. The suspects, identified as 33-year-old Thongpi Guite and 40-year-old Shokhomang Baite, were found with an AK-47 rifle, a 9 mm pistol, two hand grenades, and 31 rounds of live ammunition. On the same day, authorities arrested Jehova Raja Dutta at his home in Edenthar Rengkai village. He was in possession of an INSAS rifle, four magazines, 36 rounds of 5.56 mm ammunition, and a bulletproof vest.
Operations continued on May 23 when security forces captured two members of the Manipur Revolutionary Army on Wangkhei Ayangpalli Road. The individuals were identified as 30-year-old Ningthoujam Vicky Singh and 24-year-old Ningthoujam Ishworchandra Singh. Officers recovered three mobile phones, an Aadhaar card, and a two-wheeler from the pair.
In a separate incident on May 23, security forces also arrested a cadre of the Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup near Khongjom Papal Lamkhai in Thoubal district. The suspect, identified as 30-year-old Nepram Bikash Singh, was apprehended with a mobile phone. Police confirmed that security efforts, including the establishment of 114 checkpoints across hill and valley districts, remain active to maintain order in the region.
