Imphal: Security forces and central agencies conducted a series of targeted counter-insurgency operations across multiple districts of Manipur between May 17 and May 18, resulting in the arrest of six active members associated with various proscribed militant organizations. These operations represent an ongoing effort by authorities to stabilize the region, curb insurgent movements, and suppress the illicit trafficking of arms and ammunition.
On May 18, central forces conducted a significant operation in the Tengnoupal district, apprehending three cadres of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) near the border between pillars 77 and 79. The individuals were identified as Wangthoi Nahakpam, Nanaoba Nandeibam, and Malem Oinam. On the same day, security personnel also detained an operative of the Revolutionary People’s Front (RPF/PLA) named Chinglen Athokpam in the Imphal East district.
Operations on May 17 focused on different districts, leading to the arrest of Thangjam Dhamendra Singh in the Thoubal district. Authorities identified him as an active cadre of the UNLF (Koireng) allegedly involved in illegal arms trafficking. During his apprehension, security forces recovered a 9 mm magazine, a mobile phone with SIM cards, a power bank, and an ATM card. Separately, in the Imphal West district, forces took two members of the Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL) into custody near the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences and at a private residence.
