Imphal: Security forces and central agencies conducted a series of targeted operations across Manipur on May 17 and 18, resulting in the apprehension of seven active cadres affiliated with various banned insurgent organizations. These efforts reflect an ongoing crackdown by authorities to maintain stability and curb militant activities in the region.
On May 18, central forces secured the area between Border Pillars 77 and 79 in Tengnoupal district, leading to the arrest of three individuals identified as members of the People's Liberation Army (PLA). The detainees are Wangthoi Nahakpam, Nanaoba Nandeibam, and Malem Oinam. During the same period, security forces apprehended another PLA cadre, Chinglen Athokpam, in the Imphal East district.
The operations extended to May 17, when security personnel arrested two members of the Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL) in the Imphal West district. Sorokhaibam Priyochand Singh was taken into custody near the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences, while Moirangthem Naobi Singh was apprehended at his private residence.
Additionally, authorities captured Thangjam Dhamendra Singh, a cadre of the UNLF (Koireng) faction, in the Yairipok Bazar area of Thoubal district. Officials reported that the individual was involved in the illegal trafficking of arms and ammunition. During the arrest, security personnel confiscated a 9 mm magazine along with a mobile phone and two SIM cards.
