Scholar Hiren Gohain to Receive 2026 Swahid Kushal Konwar Award

Guwahati: The TYPA Golaghat District Committee has selected renowned scholar, educationist, and critic Dr. Hiren Gohain as the recipient of the 2026 Swahid Kushal Konwar Award. Officials will present the honor on June 15 to celebrate his extensive influence on Assamese literature, intellectual discourse, and public life.

Dr. Gohain stands as a significant intellectual voice in Assam with a career spanning decades of writing on culture, politics, and social issues. His literary contributions include numerous books in both Assamese and English, such as Assam, A Burning Question and Tradition and Paradise Lost. He previously received the Sahitya Akademi Award in 1989 for his scholarly work regarding Srimanta Sankardev.

Beyond his academic success, Dr. Gohain maintains a reputation for engaging in national debates. He has been a consistent contributor to the Economic and Political Weekly and frequently writes on secularism, democracy, and identity. His career also features active participation in peace efforts between the Indian government and the United Liberation Front of Asom.
