Guwahati: The Saraighat Bridge in Guwahati will be completely closed to vehicular traffic for eight hours starting tonight. The closure is scheduled from 10:00 PM on May 21 until 6:00 AM on May 22 to allow crews to perform emergency repairs on the bridge deck near the Jalukbari end.

Officials from the Northeast Frontier Railway requested the block to address damage that emerged as the monsoon season began. Because the project requires heavy machinery, authorities determined that partial traffic flow would be unsafe for both workers and drivers.

Railway authorities coordinated with the Senior Superintendent of Police and the Deputy Commissioner of Police for Guwahati to manage traffic diversions during the maintenance period. The work is intentionally scheduled for overnight hours to reduce the impact on daily commuters. The bridge is expected to reopen as soon as the repairs are finished, and travelers between Guwahati and North Guwahati should plan for potential delays or alternate routes.
