Guwahati: The Saraighat Bridge connecting Guwahati and North Guwahati will be closed to all traffic for eight hours on the night of May 21. According to the Northeast Frontier Railway, the closure will begin at 10:00 pm on May 21 and last until 6:00 am the following morning.

Emergency repairs are required because sections of the road deck near the Jalukbari end were damaged following the start of the monsoon season. Authorities scheduled the work during night hours to reduce the impact on daily commuters. Because the project requires heavy machinery, officials determined that keeping the bridge open would pose a safety risk to the public.

Local traffic police will oversee vehicle diversions while the maintenance work is underway. Officials confirmed the bridge will reopen to the public as soon as the repairs are complete. Commuters are advised to prepare for the temporary closure by using alternative travel routes.
