Guwahati: The Sanatan Samaj Dhubri hosted the Mass Upanayana Festival 2026 on June 19 at the historic Kalibari premises. The event brought together community members to instill Sanatan values and cultural heritage in the younger generation. Fourteen boys from Brahmin families participated in this significant rite of passage, which was preceded by a Ganga Invitation ceremony attended by nearly 300 women.
Participants performed the Vriddhi Shraddha ritual at their homes before traveling to the Kalibari venue. The proceedings included the Chudakarana tonsure ceremony and a ritual bath using water gathered from seven sacred rivers. The main Vedic rituals followed, conducted strictly in accordance with traditional practices.
Dr. Dipendra Kumar Adhikari, President of Sanatan Samaj Dhubri, chaired an intellectual session held during the event. Dignitaries included Dhubri Municipal Board Chairman Dr. Debamoy Sanyal and Agrasen Bhavan President Suresh Harlalka. Keynote speaker Brahmachari Achyutji of the Art of Living emphasized the importance of ancient learning, noting, "the relevance of Vedic education and values in contemporary society."
The event featured a Shri Vishnu Homa Mahayajna held to pray for national security, global peace, and human welfare. Organizers noted that the initiative serves a dual purpose: encouraging youth interest in Vedic traditions and addressing a local shortage of trained priests capable of leading religious rituals. Following the ceremony, each participant received traditional gifts including clothing, wooden sandals, and a copy of Purohit Darpan.
