Fleming Rupsi Elected Deputy Chairman of North Cachar Hills Council

Guwahati: Fleming Rupsi took the Deputy Chairman seat for the 13th North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council on Wednesday. The election occurred during the council's 8th session held at the Haflong assembly hall. Rupsi secured the position unanimously after his opponent, Ramgalungbe Jeme, pulled his nomination from the running.

The council members welcomed the Jatinga constituency representative with a traditional Risa. This marks his third consecutive term in the council following the 2024 elections. He previously served as an Executive Member. Rupsi stated, "the position carries a major responsibility to guide the district towards progress while maintaining unity and integrity."

He expects the role to drive further development across the district. During the same session, the body passed the 49th Amendment Bill, 2023. This legislation, known as the Oath Taking Bill, changes the council's internal proceedings.
