Itanagar: A deadly cloudburst in Poosa on June 24 left one person dead and four missing. The storm also wrecked 18 residential quarters at the NEEPCO colony. Now, mudslides and flash floods have severed the Hoj-Potin stretch of National Highway-13. This route serves as a lifeline for central and upper Arunachal Pradesh.
Papum Pare Deputy Commissioner Lobsang Tsering inspected the disaster zone. He noted the scale of the destruction across the region. Tsering said, "The extent of damage across multiple stretches is substantial and restoration of the Hoj-Potin route is expected to take more than a week."
Fresh rain triggered new blockages on the Kimin-Potin road. Travel is a nightmare. The Sagalee-Parang road stands as the only motorable path to Potin for now. Authorities ordered local teams to clear debris, but constant downpours and unstable terrain keep stalling the work.
The Public Works Department faces a tough grind. Junior Engineer Nagesh Kumar Singh reported that they have deployed heavy machinery, but fuel shortages and massive vertical gorges create dangerous conditions. Officials warn that the route could remain broken for up to a month. Citizens should avoid all non-essential travel until the ground stabilizes.
