Guwahati: A turtle wandered into a residential neighborhood in East Singimari, Rupahihat, on the morning of September 8. High floodwaters pushed the creature toward human homes. The animal turned up during the early hours, sparking immediate alarm among the locals.
One resident spotted the turtle after stepping outside his house. He quickly rallied his neighbors to secure the animal. They kept the turtle safe while waiting for help. Locals blamed the Singimari Forest Department for a sluggish response. They claimed the "forest department personnel took considerable time to reach the spot."
Help arrived three hours late. The residents finally handed the turtle over to the forest officials once they appeared. Heavy rain and artificial flooding remain an issue in the region. People living in the area believe the rising water forced the turtle to hunt for higher ground.
