Guwahati: Locals in Assam’s Nagaon district claim public money vanished into thin air. Two rural road projects in Mahguri Panchayat sit half-finished despite the government cutting the full checks. The work remains stuck in the mud.
Construction funds totaled 11 lakh rupees for the CC block roads in Wards 9 and 10 of the Juria Development Block. Residents point the finger at Anarul Islam, husband of local councillor Suriya Khatun, for overseeing the projects. They claim the cash was withdrawn using forged documents while the asphalt stayed in bags.
Frustrated neighbors sent a formal complaint to the Juria Development Block Officer. They want a full inquiry. The residents stated, "The sanctioned amount was withdrawn by submitting forged documents even though the construction work was not completed."
Officials have done nothing. The complaint sits on a desk gathering dust. Locals are now asking state authorities to step in and hold the responsible parties accountable for the empty roads and the missing cash.
