Guwahati: Ledo College and Ledo Senior Secondary School are facing another round of closures after heavy rainfall caused artificial flooding to sweep through their campuses. Located in the 83rd Margherita Legislative Assembly Constituency of Tinsukia district, these institutions have struggled with seasonal waterlogging for several years.
Local residents and staff report that an earthen drain running alongside the schools frequently overflows during downpours, pushing water into classrooms and across surrounding areas. This persistent issue continues to hinder daily operations and creates significant challenges for the local student body.
Students and teachers allege that their repeated requests for a permanent fix have been ignored by local officials. Staff members stated, "multiple representations and applications had been submitted to the concerned authorities seeking a permanent solution." Despite these efforts, they claim that no concrete action has been taken by the Assam Government or the Margherita Co-District administration.
Community members argue that the flooding could be prevented through the scientific excavation and proper construction of the existing drainage system. The recurring nature of this problem has sparked frustration over the current state of infrastructure planning and the lack of urgent flood mitigation measures in the region.
