Guwahati: The Rabha Hasong Joutho Mancha hosted a ceremony at Gandhi Maidan in Boko on June 11 to celebrate four newly elected legislators from the Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council area. Led by Kamrup district president Sumit Rabha, the event combined traditional cultural displays with discussions on regional political priorities.
The organization honoured Palashbari MLA Himanshu Shekhar Baishya, Boko-Chaygaon MLA Raju Mesh, West Goalpara MLA Pabitra Rabha, and Dudhnai MLA Tankeswar Rabha, who also serves as the Chief Executive Member of the RHAC. The legislators received traditional items including gamochas, arnais, and japis to mark their success.
Addressing the attendees, Tankeswar Rabha cautioned residents against selling their land to outsiders for quick profit. He used the platform to call for formal constitutional recognition of the council, stating, "He also reiterated the long-standing demand for constitutional recognition of the Rabha Hasong Autonomous Council, emphasizing the need to protect indigenous identity and community resources."
Other legislators focused on infrastructure and political representation. Himanshu Shekhar Baishya confirmed that a proposed satellite city would be constructed near the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport in Guwahati rather than in the Borduwar region. Pabitra Rabha discussed the potential for future constituency delimitation, suggesting that creating more seats within the council area would empower the community to handle local issues more effectively. Raju Mesh pledged to remain focused on resolving the ongoing concerns of his constituents.
