Questions Raised After Massive Security Operation in Konsakhul; Three Village Volunteers Taken by Security Forces

Imphal: A large-scale security operation was carried out at Konsakhul (Konsaram) village in Kangpokpi district during the early hours of Wednesday, according to local residents, who reported a significant deployment of security personnel in and around the area.

Villagers stated that more than 60 security vehicles arrived near the village at approximately 5:00 a.m., followed by an extensive combing and search operation conducted by a large contingent of security forces. Local estimates placed the strength of the deployed personnel at over 150.

Residents alleged that villagers were subjected to forceful treatment, intimidation, humiliation, and harassment during the operation. These claims, however, could not be independently verified at the time of publication.

During the course of the operation, three villagers were reportedly taken into custody for questioning by security personnel. The individuals have been identified as:

  • Chalanwangbo Thiumai
  • Hopeson Abonmai
  • Namroungwi Chawang

Authorities had not publicly disclosed the reasons for their detention or questioning as of the time of filing this report. Locals said their licensed single barrel guns were ceased by the security forces, leaving nothing to defend themselves with.

The operation has generated concern among local residents, particularly in light of the unresolved case involving the abduction and killing of six Naga civilians on May 13, 2026. Community members noted that no arrests have been publicly announced in connection with those killings and questioned the progress of the investigation.

Residents have also raised questions regarding the location of the operation. Some community members have asked why such a large-scale security action was conducted in Konsakhul, while no similar operation has been publicly reported in neighbouring Leilon Vaiphei village, where six Naga men were allegedly abducted, brutally murdered, and their bodies dismembered in the May 13 incident. They have called for clarity from the authorities regarding the rationale behind the operation and the status of investigations into the killings.

As of publication, no official statement had been issued by the Government of Manipur, Manipur Police, or the security agencies involved regarding the operation or the reported detention of the three volunteers.

The situation remains developing, and official confirmation on several aspects of the operation is still awaited. Further details are expected as authorities respond and additional information becomes available.
